Light it Up and Put a Tax on It: Survey Shows Majority Think Marijuana Should be Legal, Taxed
Summary:
There is much discussion going on nationally about legalizing marijuana.
Body of Press Release:

San Diego, CA ( Prwebblog ) February 4, 2010 - There is much discussion going on nationally about legalizing marijuana. There are groups in favor of decriminalizing it’s use and possession (e.g., Law Enforcement Against Prohibition or UGA NORML) and there are advocacy groups who want it legalized for medicinal purposes (e.g., Patients out of Time). But some groups still think it should remain illegal.

From the medical perspective, marijuana has been shown to have therapeutic effects for cancer treatment, AIDS and other chronic illnesses. However, because some studies indicate that use of marijuana can have an adverse effect on the brain, along with long-term side effects that can show up years after a person has stopped using marijuana, there are still strong voices who feel it should stay illegal.

TestCountry.com, a distributor of home and workplace substance abuse and drug testing kits products, has been conducting an survey on the subject. There were nearly 2,000 responses to the question Should Marijuana Be Legalized & Taxed. An overwhelming majority of those who took the survey felt that marijuana should be legalized (73 percent total). More than half the respondents thought it should be legal and taxed (55 percent). Only 22 percent of those who took the survey thought the drug should never be made legal.

The results of the 1,932 votes broke down like this:
- Yes, make it legal and tax (55 percent, 1,057 Votes)
- No, never make it legal (22 percent, 421 Votes)
- No, make it legal but don't tax (18 percent, 343 Votes)
- I don't care (5 percent, 110 Votes)
